Swab sample of deceased person tests COVID-19 negative in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The result of the swab sample test of a deceased person in Lakhimpur district was reported negative for COVID-19 on Tuesday. Notably, this person named Ram Bilash Kalita (70), resident of No. 3 Rangajan under Simaluguri area of district, died due to fever on Saturday night.

Then the District Health Department collected the swab sample of the deceased for COVID-19 test and his body was kept at North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. Had the swab test result of the deceased person come positive for coronavirus, post mortem would have been conducted. The Health Department handed over the body to his relatives on Tuesday and the last rites were already performed at his village as per tradition.

On the other hand, no new COVID-19 patient was detected in Lakhimpur on Tuesday. However, the Health Department shifted one patient named Abha Baruah (57) to the isolation ward of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh on Monday night at 1.00 am. As per report, the oxygen saturation of the patient came below 95, which is the standard level, and that was why she had to be shifted to AMCH. Her condition is stable at present as reported by the District Health Department. Notably, the patient is the resident of Bormuria Tiniali near North Lakhimpur town. She was detected positive for COVID-19 along with her husband Sumu Baruah (67) on July 3. Then they were shifted to the Dedicated COVID Health Centre at Boginadi Model Hospital. Significantly, they had no travel history and the source of their infection has not been detected. The District Health Department collected a total of 295 swab samples on Tuesday. Out of them, 125 swab samples were collected under Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP).
