Kokrajhar: Along with the rest of the country, Kokrajhar also joined the Swachhata Hi Seva programme. Minister Pramila Rani Brahma paid floral tribute at the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary in a programme organized by Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) at the Basic Training Centre auditorium hall. She also launched Angikaar scheme in Kokrajhar, a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later, she joined the cleanliness drive and collected polythene bags, besides asking businessmen and shop owners to cooperate in keeping Kokrajhar free from plastic and plastic materials.
Talking to reporters, Brahma said the people of Kokrajhar joined the cleanliness programme in the district to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission. She said that keeping the surrounding areas clean was important for a healthy environment. Brahma called upon people to shun the use of plastic bags and plastic materials to keep the environment clean. She also asked businessmen and shop owners not to use any kind of plastic materials. The programme, which was chaired by the chairman of KMB, Bishnu Narzary, was also addressed by BTC EM Doneswar Goyary and others.
Meanwhile, the district administration of Kokrajhar also observed the Swachhata Hi Seva programme in front of DC office where Deputy Commissioner Partha Pratim Mazumder, Additional DC Debojit Bora and other officials took part. Kokrajhar DC Partha Pratim Mazumder called upon the people of Kokrajhar to avoid using plastic bags.
Maruwari Yuva Manch also observed the day at the Assam Oil depot premises and the organization distributed small dustbins to pedestrians. The programme was attended by BTC EM Doneswar Goyary, Kokrajhar DC Partha Pratim Mazumder and other leaders of the Manch.
