MANGALDAI/UDALGURI: A festive and colourful atmosphere has been prevailing in Hattigorh area along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district as a large number of people, including the villagers, students, ex-servicemen, officials of civil administration and media persons spontaneously joined 'Swarnil Vijay Varsh'-the three-day long detailed programme to mark the completion of glorious 50 years of Indo-Pakistan War, 1971. The 21 Mountain (Artillery) Brigade of the Indian Army, to commemorate this historic event, has organized a three-day long detailed programme on September 2, September 3 and September 4.
On December 16, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lit the Victory Flame from the National War Memorial in New Delhi signifying the valour and bravery of the soldiers of Indian Army and since then the Victory Flame was travelling across the length and breadth of India. On its journey to the Northeast, the Flame reached at Tamulpur Military Station on September 2 and on that evening it was greeted with tremendous enthusiasm at Dimakuchi Stadium and later taken to Hattigorh Military Station with full honour.
On Friday morning, Speaker of Assam Assembly, Biswajit Daimary, Commander of 21 Mountain (Artillery) Brigade Sanjeev Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri, Dr. Uday Praveen and other dignitaries offered floral wreaths at the War Memorial and planted saplings. Synchronizing with the celebration of 'Swarnil Vijay Varsh', the Army offered heartfelt felicitation to 22 ex-servicemen of the district. A large number of students, cadets of NCC and youth of the locality took part in a Victory Run and in a bicycle rally.
