TANGLA: The Tangla Motor Sramik Association, one of the oldest unions of the State founded in 1961, has taken it upon itself to distribute ration and food to the bus driver and conductor members of the association who are struggling to make both ends meet during the lockdown without daily rides.

Journalists Bapan Sarma and Shajid Khan attended the ration distribution programme and handed over packets of ration on behalf of the association containing rice, lentils, salt, biscuits and mustard oil among the 110 members of the association at its office in Tangla town of Udalguri district on Sunday.

The president of the association, Likhan Das said, "It is very disheartening to note that the government's helping hand have not reached the members of the association in these distressing times. So we decided to help them through the fund of the association collected to observe Biswakarma Puja every year." He further lamented that the Social Welfare Departments of Assam and BTC had never helped the members of the association for the past decade despite repeated pleas to the authorities through local legislators and offices. The members of the association expressed gratitude to the association for the aid in these trying times.
