Tangla teachers staged sit-in protest in Udalguri district

TANGLA: Reiterating the issues plaguing the primary school teachers of Assam, the Bhergaon subdivision chapter of Akhil Bharatiya Prathmik Shikshak Sangh and Assam Raijik Prathamil Shikshak Sanmilani on Saturday staged sit-in protest in front of Block Elementary Education Officer’s office in Khoirabari of Udalguri district for three hours.

Nearly 200 teachers took part in the protest and shouted slogans to put forward their demand of pay parity of primary school teachers across the country as per the 7th Pay Commission, regularization of contractual teachers’ post, discarding of new pension scheme by reinstating the previous scheme, the eight-point charter of demands.

The president of Bhergaon subdivision chapter of Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani, Mukut Chandra Boro said, “The regularization of services has been a long-standing demand of the TET qualified teachers. The ruling BJP had also mentioned in its poll manifesto ahead of the 2016 Assembly polls that the services of the TET qualified teachers will be regularized once voted to power but it is now turning its back on the demands.”
