Guwahati: Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's health has deteriorated since yesterday but he is stable now, Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Dr Abhijit Sarma said on Thursday.

The three-time CM of Assam had been in and out of hospital since August after he had tested positive for COVID-19.

"He is drowsy. Not talking much but he is communicating through signs and hand gestures. His condition is stable but next few hours are critical", Dr Sharma said.

The GMCH doctors had a consultation through video call with doctors of AIIMS regarding the line of treatment needed for the veteran Congress leader.

The 86-year-old leader's condition is being monitored by a nine member committee of doctors, which was initially formed when he had tested positive for Covid-19.
