Tezpur Cancer Centre observes first anniversary

TEZPUR: To commemorate the first anniversary of the Tezpur Cancer Centre, a ceremony was organized which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Deba Kumar Mishra.

The oncologist of the hospitals were felicitated for the yeoman service rendered by them against many challenges and constraints in an evolving hospital. The Centre offers Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Brachytherapy, Palliative care and a number of other interventional procedures for diagnosis and treatment. The hospital has its own automated labs for diagnostics and has complete infrastructure for most comfortable stay of the patients for day care therapy. Hospital has treated about 2849 new cancer patients in last one year.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra said, “The people of upper Assam are truly blessed by virtue of this facility and 2,849 patients do not have to travel anywhere for cancer care as this centre is at par with any reputable cancer hospital in India.” Mishra also said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, this unique philanthropic venture with the Tata Trusts is benefitting many people get cancer treatment free of cost under PMJAY. Assam Cancer Care Foundation is a joint venture between the Government of Assam and the Tata Trusts which has a mandate to set up a total of 17 cancer hospitals in the State, including an upgraded state cancer institute in Guwahati.

The programme was attended by Professor (Dr) Karuna Hazarika, Principal of Tezpur Medial College and Hospital, Raj Baruah, ADC, Sonitpur, among many other officers and doctors. An audio-visual presentation showcased the journey of the hospital and testimonials of many patients.
