Thieves Steal 6 Litre of Edible Oil from Temple in Mangaldoi, Assam

According to reports, the local people of Gerimari, Mangaldoi said that thieves entered the mandir and looted cash and edible oil during night hours.

GUWAHATI: Amidst the exorbitant price rise of edible or mustard oil, a group of thieves stole six-liter edible oil along with other things from a Shiv temple in Mangaldoi in Darrang, Assam.

According to reports, the local people of Gerimari, Mangaldoi said that thieves entered their mandir and looted cash and edible oil during night hours.

According to the office-bearers of the temple committee, the thieves looted 6-liter mustard oil and cash of Rs. 600 among other things. The temple committee suspected that the thieves looted the edible oil due to the mustard oil price rise.

The temple committee has decided to pray the Almighty to infuse good thoughts in the minds of the thieves.

"They stole edible oil and other things from the mandir donated by devotees. We would organize a prayer to the Almighty so that their thoughts turn into good," said the president of the temple committee.

Earlier, the Hojai police arrested a man for, allegedly, stealing mustard oil from a shop. The accused has been identified as one Debashis Dey from Samarbasti, Hojai.

According to the investigating police, Debashish and two of his accomplices stole some packets of mustard oil from a shop located in the Lalmati area, Hojai.

The police recovered 16-liter Engine brand mustard oil from him. Meanwhile, his two accomplices are on the run. The arrested accused was also involved in an LPG cylinders theft from a local Kali Mandir.

According to the police, Debashish stole two cylinders from the mandir. The police also recovered one cylinder from him.

Notably, in recent days, the country has been a massive spike in the price of edible oil as well as other commodities including fuel oil and LPG price.
