Third commerce laboratory of Assam inaugurated at Gargaon College

SIVASAGAR: In an endeavour to facilitate practical application of knowledge for the young learners, a commerce laboratory was inaugurated on Thursday at Gargaon College.

The commerce laboratory, credited to be the third in Assam, has been donated by Dr Minerva Saikia Baruah, retired Professor, College of Community Science, Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat, and her family in memory of her husband, Dr Gakul Ch. Baruah who had served as the Head of the department of Commerce and Vice-Principal of Gargaon College for many years.

Dr Meghali Bora, head of the department of Commerce, enumerated the objectives while Dr Anil Tanti, Assistant Professor anchored the entire programme.

Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal, Gargaon College, in his welcome address reminisced the dedicated service and academic contribution of Dr Gakul Ch. Baruah and extended sincere gratitude on behalf of the college fraternity towards Dr Minerva Saikia Baruah and her family for their generosity and noble contribution towards the uplift of the student community.

Inaugurating the Commerce Laboratory, Dr Saumar Jyoti Mahanta, Principal, Sibsagar Commerce College, highlighted the different facets of commerce education in creating employability. He applauded the contribution of Dr Minerva Saikia Baruah and viewed that the commerce laboratory would consolidate the existing infrastructure of the college. Retired Professor of the Department of Commerce, Nilambar Chutia gave a valuable insight on the remarkable contributions of Dr Gakul Ch. Barua.

Dr Minerva Saikia Baruah thanked the Principal and faculty members of the Department of Commerce for extending support and turning her vision into a reality. She also stressed the proper use of the laboratory by conducting training programme for the benefit of the students.
