LAKHIMPUR: The third phase rollout of the Assam Micro-Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS), 2021 for 11 lakh borrowers of Category-1 (Promt Payer) was launched in Lakhimpur district on Sunday.
On this occasion, a ceremonial programme was organized at the Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town under the auspices of Finance Department, Government of Assam and Lakhimpur district administration. Attending the event as chief guest, Minister for Tea Tribe Welfare and Labour Welfare-cum-Guardian Minister of Lakhimpur, Sanjay Kishan formally inaugurated the scheme by distributing cheques to the borrowers concerned. In his lecture, the minister highly appreciated the spirit and courage of women to be self-dependant. He called upon the women community to come forward to extend their cooperation to the Chief Minister and State Government's agenda to establish Assam to be one of the five best performing States of the nation.
In the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan delivered the welcome address. Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah was present in the programme as guest of honour. He called upon the women not lose heart in the struggle of life. He also called upon the women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to work hard to implement the governments' schemes adopted for the empowerment of the women. He also appealed to them to pay their importance in agricultural farming.
In the programme, cheques to waive micro-finance loan were distributed to 5000 women out of 17,710 borrowers of the Lakhimpur district. Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, Bihpuriya MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley, and other dignitaries were present in the programme.
