Thousands throng Ashoka Ashtami Mela in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Thousands of people thronged Ashoka Ashtami Mela (fair) in Dibrugarh on Saturday. After two years, the Ashoka Ashtami mela was organised near the DTP dyke in Dibrugarh. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Ashoka Ashtami Mela was not organised for two years.

On this auspicious day, people take a holy dip in the Brahmaputra river. "For last two years the Mela was not organised due to Covid-19 but this time, the district administration has given permission for the mela.

The district administration has made all arrangements for the mela. The people were seen enjoying the mela. Small children and senior citizens were seen in the mela. "Last two years, Ashoka Ashtami Mela was not organised. We are happy that this time the mela was organised. For many years, we are coming to the Ashtami Mela. It is our family tradition to come to Ashtami Mela," said Binita Sarkar, a senior citizen. Nearly, 100 stalls have been installed at the Mela.
