JOYSAGAR, May 4: Various road mishaps have been taking place in recent times in the districts of Sivasagar and Charaidew leading to the death of several persons while many others were seriously injured. Despite the district administration’s necessary measures to check road mishaps, such mishaps continue to take place. Conscious citizens are of the view that miserable condition of most of the PWD roads in the districts could be one of the prime reasons.
Besides, a large number of people still do not following the road safety norms while the menace of drunken driving only adds to the people’s dismay. On Thursday, three persons died in different road accidents in Sivasagar. One Bitupon Das of Namdang Gaon under Joysagar Police Station died on the spot in a road accident. He was riding home his motorcycle when he knocked down another motorcycle rider near Namdang river on NH-37 and died on the spot.
In another road mishap one Mandal BJP leader died on the spot near Salkathoni Tea Estate Bridge. He was identified as Anton Tapno (27) and was a resident of the Kanu Tea Estate staff line under Sonari Police Station. Further, in Ganjupara area one Dharma Nagbanshi (41) of Mathurapur died when he was knocked down by a dumper. Mathurapur police has seized the dumper and picked up the driver. With the death of these three persons yesterday, altogether 9 persons have died in road accidents in the last four days in Sivasagar and Charaidew districts while 22 persons have died in road mishaps after the Rongali Bihu till date.
