Three drug traffickers arrested in Tinsukia district

TINSUKIA: A police team from Pangree PS in Tinsukia district, led by SDPO Margherita Punakon Gogoi, apprehended three drug traffickers, including a woman, along with heroin weighing 29.70 grams from a Maruti Alto vehicle bearing number AS23 G 9756 while they were refilling their vehicle at a petrol pump in Pangree on Thursday. The vehicle was coming from Bordumsa in Assam-Arunachal border. The traffickers, all belonging to Bordumsa area, have been identified as Bhupen Deuri of Mohong, Lakhyajit Baruah of Kathalguri and Rekha Baruah of Kathalguri.

Following search operations conducted at Rekha Baruah's residence, the police recovered additional 337 grams of brown sugar. The woman revealed that the market value of the seized heroin would be around Rs 9 lakh. She also told police that she had earlier worked as an Asha karmi and gave up the job after getting into the lucrative drug trade.
