Guwahati: Investigations on the Chayygaon incident wherein dance troupers were forced to strip their clothes are underway and police have come up with another success of holding three more accused lately. With this, the total accused held in the case so far becomes five with a search for some more on track.
Reportedly, there was a mob of about 700-800 men who had allegedly forced a dance troupe called Rainbow Dance Group to strip while they were performing their dance on stage. The dance troupe comprised of 42 women dancers and they were being invited to perform during a cultural event in Asolpara area of Chaygaon. The area falls under the range of Kamrup Rural district in Assam.
The three accused apprehended by Chaygaon police on Monday are identified as Rehmat Ali, Nizamuddin and Sanjoy Chakraborty. Before this, police arrested two other accused on June 9 identified as Shahrukh Khan and Subhan Khan.
As stated by Chaygaon police station in-charge Rupam Hazarika, the organizers had taken no permission for the event from the local authorities and in fact, the nature of the event too is not known yet. He further adds that the situation at the place is under control now.
Shocked to hear about mass molestation of a female dance troupe in Assam, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma had tweeted, “Talked to DGP Assam just now. He said the FIR is been registered and 2 of the accused got arrested. Told him to do proper inquiry and arrest the organizers.”
The female dance troupe hails from Boko and it was invited for performance at a cultural event organized by Kuddus Ali who happens to be one of the organisers of the programme. but it al;l turned a bitter experience and life-threatening evening for the dancers when they were forced by hundreds of spectators to strip and perform. As soon as the dancers denied to comply with the unethical demands of the mob, they were abused and molested by the mob.
