TINSUKIA: The activists of Tinsukia District AASU Students’ Union detained 18 appointees and refrained them from joining in their respective posts under the Tinsukia Railway Division of NF Railway on Thursday. The activists claimed that they had been appointed to this division by depriving local youths and urged the people of Assam to stand against the anti-local policy of the Railways.
According to a railway source, there are about 1,600 posts in Group C and D lying vacant in Tinsukia division alone and those appointed will be joining in deferent departments in batches. The source contended that most of the fresh appointees immediately after joining would seek a transfer, as had happened in previous cases. Thus, manpower always falls short in the Division.
DRM of Tinsukia, Ashish Sharma, when asked about the current impasse, told this correspondent that the selection of candidates was done on a national basis by the Railway Recruitment Board and this Division had nothing to do with the appointments. These appointees, he said, would be allowed to join and would be absorbed in different departments in the Division as per norms. He said that the aggrieved people should take up the issue with the competent authority and not locally.
