TINSUKIA: Expressing concern over the soaring prices of essential commodities and alleged hoarding, the Tinsukia unit of AASU (All Assam Students' Union), in a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on Monday, urged him to take immediate steps to the curb the prices and also to book the unscrupulous traders who are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic situation by allegedly hoarding essential items.

The students' organization also said that if the authorities concerned fail to initiate steps then the AASU will be compelled to resort to vigorous agitation programme.

The memorandum stated that the traders cannot be allowed to run their businesses by taking for a ride the district administration and the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department. The AASU also demanded an immediate halt to such practices of a section of the wholesalers and traders and give respite to the common people.

It also flayed the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department for not taking action to check the price-rise issue.
