TINSUKIA: The management of traffic in and around Chamber Road and Siding Bazar, the core business hub in Tinsukia, was always a challenging task for the administration, police and trader organizations as self-interested groups within the business community opposed any move to streamline the movement of hundreds of vehicles day and night which used to create traffic bottleneck. At the initiative of present Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, Bhaskar Pegu, a sea of change has been noticed since Tuesday with regulated traffic order after the National Chamber of Commerce (NCC) Tinsukia extended full support to streamline the chaotic traffic scenario in the area.
The first public meeting held on March 4 at the DC’s conference hall with Bhaskar Pegu in the chair did not yield effective formulation as some trader organizations, other than NCC members, suggested points suitable to their interests. Recently, he constituted a team with Bhasker Bora, Assistant Commissioner, Saruj Sonowal, Election Officer, Jaydeep Rajak, Circle Officer (attached), and Santanu Bordoloi, SI FCS, to ensure proper implementation of COVID-19 protocol in Chamber Road/Siding Bazar.
Meanwhile, the NCC Tinsukia organized a meeting on Monday at the office of NCC Tinsukia in presence of Bitul Chetia, DSP(Hq), Jaideep Rajak, CO(A), Amarjyoti Bachung, Traffic Inspector, Nitul Das, OC Tinsukia Sadar PS, and members from trader organizations and decided to streamline the movement of vehicles from Tuesday. The meeting decided that unloading of vehicles, except six wheelers should be completed before 8 am and if incomplete, it can be done between 2.30 pm to5 pm. While the six wheeler vehicles will be allowed to operate, the trucks should be unloaded at one point only without piecemeal unloading and there should be one way movement, besides maintaining social distancing with wearing of mask mandatory.
Hiralal Sharma, president of NCC Tinsukia, on behalf of trading organizations appreciated the DC Tinsukia for taking such an initiative. The DC in turn urged the commercial organizations to follow the revised guidelines of traffic management in order to ensure smooth conduct of business even after the lockdown was withdrawn.
