TINSUKIA: The valedictory ceremony of the week-long observance of Divyangjan programme organized by the Tinsukia district administration was held on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Gopal Krishna Balika Vidyalaya, Makum in which Prerona Award, felicitation of specially-abled achievers, were presented.

Organized jointly by Hapjan Education Block and RMSA, the programme was chaired by DhandevMahanta, former chairman of SEBA, while the objective of the meeting was outlined by Inspector of Schools, Tinsukia, Bitupan Hazarika. DrChaitanya Bora, Principal of Tinsukia Commerce College, as invited speaker said that children with disability needed special attention, many of whom possessed promising and creative abilities which both guardians and teachers should observe keenly.

Shyamal Kshetra Gogoi, SDO (Civil) Sadiya, Geetali Duarah, ADC, AmalyaDutta, secretary of Tinsukia District Academic Council, and other dignitaries addressed the gathering. Gorima Bharali, a specially-abled girl student of Doomdooma Girls' High School who secured 69 per cent marks along with letter marks in Assamese in the HSLC examination, 2020 along with Ranjit Bikash Chetia, a teacher of GBC HS School, received the Prerona Award for the year 2020.

Elsewhere in the district, Tinsukia District Social Welfare Department, in association with Surjadaya and Snahalaya, organized the day at Lezaihola LP School with Dr Sadananda Nath in the chair. Several specially-abled persons who excelled in various fields were felicitated.
