TINSUKIA: In a bid to curb the menace of unabated robbery and snatching cases, the Tinsukia district administration has promulgated 144 CrPC prohibiting pillion riding in entire Tinsukia district with immediate effect. Even as more than 15 suspected criminals have been picked up from different locations there has been no let-up in robbery cases. The Doomdooma Police have created 24 hours nakka in all roads where the incidents of snatching were highest and most of the victims were staff and employees of microfinance companies. A police source, however, told this correspondent that some robberies were got-up cases and criminals in connivance with the employees looted the amount. Two robbery cases, one each in Tinsukia and Doomdooma, that took place on Wednesday also appear suspicious.
Police also do not rule out the involvement of tea leaf thieves in recent robbery cases. With the on-going lean season in green tea leaves, the thieves shifted their operation to other activities. Police firmly believe that with the restriction on pillion riding and firm nakka, robbery would be minimized to a great extent.
