'Tinsukia Medical College is a landmark achievement towards Act East Policy'- Sarbananda Sonowal

TINSUKIA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of Tinsukia Medical College, the 12th Medical College in the State on Monday at Sukan Pukuri located about 10 km from Tinsukia town. "The Medical College is a landmark achievement towards Act East Policy which not only would benefit neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh but would also improve India's relation with ASEAN countries," Sonowal said after laying the foundation stone. Accompanied by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, both performed bhumi puja at the site. Sonowal was confident that the Medical College through its advanced mode of technology will create a niche in international arena that would inspire future students.

Referring to present turmoil on Clause 6, Sonowal while lambasting some intellectuals and organisations said, "We firmly believe in the politics of peace and cooperation but not in the politics of conflict and confrontation." He called upon them to be logical and practical and to suggest practical and acceptable solutions having justified reasoning and asked them to refrain from sending emotional messages to the common people. He categorically stated that there should not be any fear in the mind of people, it was his responsibility to bestow confidence on them. Being a member from ethnic community, he was most concerned about the wellbeing and to safeguard the prime interest of all communities, Sonowal asserted. In his deliberation, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that Rs 405 crore Tinsukia Medical College project will be completed in 3 years. He opined that Assam Medical College Dibrugarh would be a boost to Tinsukia Medical College and establishment of Tinsukia Cancer Hospital nearby will facilitate a comprehensive treatment for patients.
