Tinsukia police seized huge cache of illicit liquor and cash

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia police seized a significant cache of illicit liquor and cash in an operation at Dirak area under Bordumsa PS on Wednesday night.

Based on specific input, a police team led by DSP (probationer) Partha Pratim Duarah and OC Bordumsa intercepted three vehicles, including a truck coming from Arunachal Pradesh, and recovered cash of Rs 86.33 lakh, 603 cartons of liquor concealed beneath sugar bags and detained eight persons, including a minor.

The vehicles involved in the illicit trade were a truck NL 01AE 5393, an i20 car AS 01AR 9664 and a Renault Kwid Car AS23X6117. The apprehended persons were Agur Ali of Bogchasa under Barpeta PS, a minor; Omprakash Das of Matipur under Matipur PS in Bihar; Bhupendra Singh of Tigiri Bhuri under Katimar PS in Uttarakhand; Rajesh Chetry of New Development Tinsukia; Pradip Khawas (driver of the car) of Tribal Colony, Tezu PS under Luhit district; Jitendra Yadav of Parawana under Tariaya Bihar PS; and Chandra Prakash Chand of Township Block V, Tezu under Luhit district. According to a police source, the destination of the consignment was Bihar, a dry state.
