However in his letter to the Chief Minister, Chakraborty said, " Some miscreants or opposition have misled, instigated or propagated this matter and created huge confusion and hue and cry among the citizens that the tax would soar as high as upto 700%."

Suraksha Mancha on Tuesday vehemently protested against the term 'miscreants' as used by the MLA. In a press conference, the leaders of Mancha said, more than 95 per cent people of Silchar had not submitted the self assessment form in stipulated time, now would the MLA term them as miscreants?. They demanded unconditional apology from Chakraborty.

District BJP president Bimalendu Roy in press briefing said, civil society should not feel that Chakraborty had termed them in any derogatory adjective. Deepayan Chakraborty earlier cautioned the people that if they fail to submit the form, legal actions might be taken against them. This remark too sparked much fury among the locals.
