Tipper Falls Into Gorge In Borkhola; 1 Dead; 7 Injured

The mishap took place around 7:15pm on Monday evening when a stone-laden tipper overturned at Adakuchi, about 13km from Borkhola and fell into a ditch along the roadside

SILCHAR: In a tragic incident, a labourer died and seven others sustained critical injuries in a road accident at a place called Adakuchi near Damcherra under Borkhola police station in Cachar district on Monday evening.

According to sources, the mishap took place around 7:15pm on Monday evening when a stone-laden tipper overturned at Adakuchi, about 13km from Borkhola and fell into a ditch along the roadside. One labourer was killed and seven others suffered grievous injuries in the incident. All the labourers were in the vehicle when the accident happened.

The deceased labourer was identified as Sona Mohan Saotal (21), who was a resident of Baula Basti, Borkhola. The injured labourers are – Rajen Saotal (24), Bishu Saotal (18), Rupan Saotal (23), Sanjay Saotal (24), Rana Saotal (22), Amrit Saotal (19) and Bishal Urang (18). They also hail from Baula Basti.

A team of cops from Borkhola police station led by the assistant sub inspector Nilmoni Singh rushed to the spot after receiving the information of the mishap after which the injured persons were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The dead body was also sent to the hospital for post-mortem. Sanjay Saotal and Amrit Saotal were in serious condition, as per last reports available.

In another incident, a man was critically injured after a motor-cycle he was riding on had a head-on collision with a Maruti van at Salganga under Udharbond police station in Cachar district on Monday morning. The man Kaushik Choudhury, a resident of Paticherra tea estate, was thereafter sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, however, considering his health condition, he was referred to be taken to Guwahati for treatment.
