LAKHIMPUR: The Assam State Election Commission has issued notification for conducting the election of the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council (TKAC) and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect in the election-bound areas across the State since December 22.
According to the notification, the election to the TKAC will be held on January 20, 2022 while the counting of votes will take place on January 24, 2022. The last date for submission of nomination papers is December 31, 2021. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on January 1, 2022 while the last date for candidates to withdraw nomination is January 3, 2022.
In view of connection with the election and MCC, Sumit Sattawan, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur has promulgated 144 CrPC in the election-bound areas of the district by issuing an order vide No. LMJ. 3/2019/107 dated December 29 in order to prevent the likelihood of vitiative role played by criminal outfits, the exercise of muscle power, political violence during the electioneering period.
In a view of ensuring free and fair poll, maintenance of law and order and to inspire the confidence on the impartiality of the election machinery, the 144 CrPC has come into effect in poll-bound areas under TKAC viz— No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency covering Mornoi Thengal, Padumoni Thengal, Dhaldhalia Gandhia (Pokadol), Bongalmora Thengal, Naharani, Namchuk, Bongalmora Karipukhuri villages, No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency covering Dalapa Pothar, Kachajuli, Jariguri, No. 14 Bishnupur Thengal Baligaon, Gabharu Tunijan, Garhmur, Rangajan Baligaon, Lukampur, Sonapur, Punia Pothar, No. 2 Sonapur villages, No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency covering Khaga-Tinikhuti, Kutuhaguri, Kuchiamari, Thengal, Kadam Kachari Thengal, No 1 Bokanala, No. 2 Bokanala, Telahi Majgaon, Sonardheki Gaonburha Chuk, Bodhakora Thengal villages, No, 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency covering Kawoimari, Moricha Pothar, Khulaguri, Boraikhana, Bagicha Gaon villages, No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency covering Banderdewa (Baligaon), Borkhet, Jokaipeluwa, Bogoriguri-Harmoti, Anchibari, Parbotipur Harmoti, Gutibari Harmoti, Loribhanga villages until the electioneering process is over.
The same order has prohibited the keeping and possession of firearms by any individuals in the poll-bound areas and the firearms holders falling under those areas are directed to deposit their fire arms, weapons to their respective police stations within seven days and to obtain proper receipt from the police authority, failing to which they will be liable to be prosecuted under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
