To get rid of COVID pandemic, CM Sonowal performs Bishnu Yagya in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: In addition to adopting all kinds of medical initiatives, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday performed Bishnu Yagya at Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Baishnav Peeth of Northeast Region, located in Dhakualhana of Lakhimpur district, seeking the divine intervention in order to get rid from the jaws of dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. By performing the religious event with the due traditions of Hinduism, the Chief Minister not only fulfilled his pledge which he nurtured five years ago with regard to performing the event, but also prayed for all round betterment of the State and welfare of the people.

The religious rites of the event started from 8:00 am being conducted by four priests following the Vedic tradition. In this regard, Dhakuakhana MLA-cum-State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley extended all kinds of cooperation attending in the Xattra. In order to complete the Yagya, the Chief Minister observed fast following the tradition and administered the 'Purnahuti'. He also performed the 'Go-Pujan' amid the chanting of 'Veda Mantras' by the priests. The Yagya concluded with the donation of a black colour bull to the Brahmin priest by the Chief Minister.

Dibrugarh and Lahowal MLAs Prashanta Phukan and Rituporna Baruah respectively were among those who were present in the event. Lakhimpur District Police Department initiated all kinds of arrangements in order to conclude the event with success. On the other hand, Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra Management and Development Committee secretary Durlabh Deva Goswami informed that the Bishnu Yagya was conducted in the Xatra for the second time after 62 years.
