Total Lockdown extended in Jorhat with certain relaxations; check details here

The total lockdown in Jorhat was originally brought into effect in areas under the Jorhat Municipal board on July 9 and was expected to end on July 15

Guwahati: Owing to the alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, the Jorhat district administration on Wednesday decided to extend the Total Lockdown in the Jorhat Municipality and some sub-urban areas of Jorhat town.

The sub-urban areas of Jorhat where the Lockdown will be applicable are as follows:

  • Areas upto Cinnamara Tiniali
  • Areas upto Lichubari Chatiali
  • Areas upto Rowriah Chariali
  • Areas upto Ajanta Bypass
  • Areas upto Malow Ali bypass
  • Areas upto Sarbaibandha Bypass
  • Areas upto Borigaon Bypass
  • Areas upto Kenduguri Bypass
  • Areas upto JEC Gate, Garamur, and JEC Campus
  • Areas upto Jail Tiniali from A T Road through Sonari Gaon Road no. 1
  • Areas from Sadar Tiniali - via - Lichubari to Jail Tiniali including AAU Campus

Meanwhile, some relations have been announced by the district administration which will be applicable in the forthcoming phase of lockdown. These are:

  • The wholesale grocery shops are now allowed to open from 7 am to 12 noon.
  • Retail grocery shops are now allowed to open from 12 noon to 6 pm.
  • The home delivery of vegetables, fruits, fish, meat, and packaged drinking water is allowed.

The District Magistrate has informed that all the other prohibited activities will remain the same as per a previous order dated July 6. The weekend lockdowns which were brought into effect via an order on June 26 will continue to be enforced.

"Any person violating the COVID-19 related restrictions and prohibitory orders enforced vide this order and previous orders mentioned above will be liable to be prosecuted as per the provisions of Section 52 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC, and other legal provisions as applicable", Roshni Aparanji Korati, the Jorhat District Magistrate who is also the Chairman of the District District Management Authority, said in her order.

The lockdown in Jorhat was originally brought into effect in areas under the Jorhat Municipal board at 7 pm on July 9 and was expected to last till July 15. However, the continuing rise of the COVID-19 graph has prompted the authorities to extend the lockdown.
