LAKHIMPUR: A training-cum-demonstration on Rice Value Chain was conducted by Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), North Lakhimpur under APART, a World Bank funded project at Rajgarh village under Lakhimpur block on Tuesday. A total of thirty five participants attended the training programme. The programme started with a brief introduction on the 'Rice Value Chain' by Dr. Pinky Pathok, Project Associate, APART, RARS, North Lakhimpur where she highlighted the objective of the training programme. The technical session was carried out by Saurajyoti Baishya, Specialist, Post Harvest, IRRI, APART. He mentioned in detail about mechanical method of paddy cultivation and discussed functions of different machines used from sowing to harvesting and post harvest technologies to prevent storage loss. He thoroughly discussed the importance of Custom Hiring Centre in mechanization by providing machines at minimum hiring rate for farmers. He also demonstrated usage of Moisture Meter and Super Bag and its role in seed storage. Measuring Grain moisture is important to prevent quantitative as well as qualitative losses. The training programme was well coordinated by Champak Saikia, Research Technician, APART, RARS, North Lakhimpur. In the technical session, participants gave satisfactory feedback as they became aware on modern method of paddy cultivation which aims at cost minimization and profit maximization. They also showed their interest to use Post Harvest Technologies in the next cropping season.
