JORHAT: The Director of Extension Education Institute (EEI), Government of India, in collaboration with Assam Agricultural University, has organized a 19-day training programme on ‘Entrepreneurship Development Programme in Silk Industry’ which was inaugurated by Dr. Pradip Kumar Neog, the Director of EEI, on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. PK Neog spoke about the importance of entrepreneurship development and entrepreneurial opportunities in the silk sector for the north-eastern region. “If Northeast needs to tap the potential in the field of sericulture, entrepreneurship development, trained manpower, and willingness of people to set up enterprises and also preserve the rich tradition of the north-eastern region are highly essential. So, organizing such training programmes was felt necessary to train people, especially the youth, for motivating them towards entrepreneurship development in the highly potential silk industry,” said Dr.Neog, Director of EEI, while inaugurating the programme.
Dr. AK Bhattacharyya, senior Professor of Extension Education Institute (NER), highlighted its various training programmes and extension activities for the welfare of the farmers in the region, including sericulture.
Also present in the inaugural session were Dr. Reeta Luikham, Director (i/c) and Dr. Dip Kumar Gogoi, Scientist D, Central Muga Eri Research and Training Institute, among others.
