Training programme on field testing of Rice Knowledge Bank held in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lakhimpur, in collaboration with North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), conducted a training programme on Field Testing of Rice Knowledge Bank under the aegis of Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) on Wednesday at North Lakhimpur College. A total of 40 participants comprising students, research scholars and professors of North Lakhimpur College attended the programme.

The programme started with a welcome address by APART Project Associate Mouchumi Dutta. Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Lakhimpur, Dr Prasanta Kumar Pathak gave an overview on the mandates of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and encouraged the students regarding entrepreneurship development in agricultural sector by following the scientific way of farming. He also threw light upon different agricultural applications available on digital platforms.

Principal of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), Dr Biman Chandra Chetia delivered his lecture on agricultural scenario in Assam and the importance of farm mechanization for uplifting the farming community. Head of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College Dr Arabinda Rajkhowa gave an encouraging speech on agriculture by motivating the students to adopt agriculture as a business full of massive prospects. Then Mouchumi Dutta gave a brief overview of APART while stressing upo the importance of mechanization in the crop fields.

Subject Matter Specialist Jyotshna Das, Assistant Project Scientist, Priyamjit Roy and Research Technician Durlov Bora contributed in making the workshop successful. APART Project Scientist from Assam Agricultural University, Debahash Buragohain introduced the farmers to a mobile application 'Rice Knowledge Bank Assam (RKBAssam)' as well as the website rkbassam.in and highlighted the various components available on the portal.

Buragohain trained the participants for effective handling of the portal where farmers can surf information such as details of different stress-tolerant rice v, scientific seed production, pest and weed management, nursery preparation and management, post-harvest operations, including mechanization, etc. which will serve as a valuable source to the farming community of the State.
