Training programme on mushroom production techniques organized in Sonitpur

TEZPUR: A six-day long Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (SAME) of National Mission on Agriculture Extension & Technology (NMAET) on 'Mushroom Production techniques' was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur at KVK, Sonitpur campus. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Arifa Momtaz Begum, i/c Head, KVK, Sonitpur. Sanjukta Saikia, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK, Sonitpur and Course Director of the training programme briefed about the objectives of the programme.

At the outset, an ice breaking session was organized among the participants. On the first and second day, Saikia, SMS (Pl. Protection) delivered lectures on mushrooms, its importance, identification of edible and non-edible mushroom and their chemical constituents, Cultivation technology of some edible mushrooms - Oyster mushroom, Paddy Straw mushroom and Button mushroom etc. A practical demonstration on Oyster Mushroom production was conducted among the participants.

On the third day, Diganta Thapa, SDAO, Tezpur delivered lectures on 'Precautions to be taken during cultivation of mushroom, pests and disease problem in mushroom' and 'Selection of mushrooms, preservation techniques- different methods of preservation and economics of production of mushroom.' Dr. Arifa Momtaz Begum, i/c Head, KVK, Sonitpur discussed about the nutritional value of mushrooms and its relevance in healthy food, value added products of mushrooms and preparation of different items from mushroom on commercial basis. A demonstration on preparation of pickles from mushroom was also given on the fourth day of the training programme.

Dipankar Barik, ADO, Dipota circle discussed about the different edible mushrooms and their production in relation to Assam condition and medicinal values of mushroom.
