Training sessions held on Rice Knowledge Bank, scientific methods in rice cultivation

LAKHIMPUR: APART (Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project), in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lakhimpur conducted two different training sessions on 'Field Testing of Rice Knowledge Bank' and 'Resource Efficient Rice Establishment Method and Best Practices of Summer Paddy' on Thursday and Friday respectively. The former was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lakhimpur, while the later was held at Sandahkhowa village under Karunabari Block of the district.

The training on Field Testing of Rice Knowledge Bank started with a welcome address by APART Assistant Project Scientist Priyamjit Roy. Senior Scientist & Head of KVK, Lakhimpur, Dr. Prasanta Kumar Pathak graced the programme by holding interaction with the participants while giving a brief introduction to the institute of KVK, Lakhimpur and its ongoing programmes. In his speech, he motivated the participants to adopt modern agricultural technologies and to step towards scientific agricultural practices.

Gracing the occasion, Vivek Kumar, Scientist, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines, introduced the farmers to a mobile application 'Rice Knowledge Bank Assam (RKB Assam)' as well as the website rkbassam.in and highlighted the various components available on the portal. The scientist trained the participants for effective handling of the portal where farmers can surf information such as details of different Stress Tolerant Rice Varieties, scientific seed production, pest and weed management, nursery preparation and management, post harvest operations including mechanization, etc. which will serve as a valuable source to the farming community of the state. A total of 25 participants comprising farmers, entrepreneurs, FPC members and extension functionaries of ASRLM from different blocks of the district attended the programme.

On the other hand, the training on 'Resource Efficient Rice Establishment Method and Best Practices of Summer Paddy' started with a welcome address by Ripunjoy Deori, the Chief Executive Officer of Basundhara Agrotech Producer Company Limited. Khagen Saikia, the chairman of the same company, took part in an interactive session with the participants. In this event too, Vivek Kumar, Scientist, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines, delivered an awareness lecture addressing the participating farmers about the best scientific methods to be followed in rice cultivation, different stress-tolerant rice varieties, pest and weed management, different nursery preparation methods and each of their economical importance and also about the proper intercultural operations to be followed in the same.
