DIGBOI : “Transforming roads not only paves the path to economic prosperity but also connect the hearts from one end to the other rendering a strong boost to both culture and economy,” said Digboi BJP legislator Suran Phukan. Phukan was addressing the people during the inauguration of around 10 kilometres long Digboi-Nazirating-Dwarmara link road in Digboi on Saturday morning.

According to him, the said road connecting Digboi-based Nazirating tourist hot spot to Dwarmara, Philobari, Doomdoma and other strategic locations of Tinsukia district was built earlier in 1952 cutting short the distance of more than 30 kilometres. “Connectivity remained disrupted for several decades adding untold miseries and hardships for the people on both the ends,” told the legislator who often hit the media headlines for his crusades against illegalities.

“The said link road was reopened today for public utility following 30 years of desertion due to its deterioration and poor maintenance amidst the thick reserve forest,” Phukan said while dedicating the achievement to the people of Digboi and Doomdooma constituency in Tinsukia district. Phukan also added that Assam government has recently sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the development of the said road which would soon become a life-line for the people of both the constituencies, rendering a boost to its economy and ease of the people.

One of the office-bearers of the Buri Dehing Panchayat lauded the efforts of the local MLA. He said that upon realising the importance of the much neglected strategic road and for the greater convenience of the people of Digboi and neighbouring Doomdoma constituency Phukan had himself initially taken up the work of repairing the road at an estimated cost of Rs ten lakhs.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhiraj Gogoi, president of Tingrai BJP Mandal unit terming the development as ‘historic’ said that the relentless and innovative efforts under the leadership of MLA Suren Phukan could alone help materializing the decades-long dream of the people of his constituency. According to him, there is no denying the fact that Phukan as the right choice of the people has been delivering upto the highest satisfaction of the people and the place.
