Transgenders' Welfare Board Demands Arrest of Fake Transgender in Assam

In a press meet Swati Bidhan Baruah, chairperson of the Board alleged that some fake transgender entered and live in Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: The Transgenders' Welfare Board, Assam demanded the arrest of fake transgender people who have entered Guwahati as well as Assam and harass common people.

In a press meet Swati Bidhan Baruah, chairperson of the Board alleged that some fake transgender entered and live in Guwahati. Barua demanded an investigation into the matter and arrest them.

"We have seen that the number of transgender has been increasing in Guwahati or Assam. Some fake transgender people have entered the state. They have their families as well as children. These fake transgender harass people in public places. So, we appealed to the state government to take steps for arrest of these fake transgender,'' the chairperson added.

Baruah also alleged that some agents of a section of Christian organizations extend help and advocate for these fake transgender in order to convert them into Christianity.

"It is a very serious matter. We appeal to our community people to stand unitedly against the fake transgender. These fake transgenders may be involved with illicit drug trafficking or other crimes. Besides, some Christian organizations help them because such organizations work religious conversion,'' the Welfare Board chairperson further alleged.

Earlier, a group of Hijras (third gender) allegedly attacked a couple from Lakhimpur in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati last night. Further, seeking help the couple finally had to take support from the Paltan Bazar police station. In a video that has gone viral on the internet, it is seen and heard that the Hijras are rebuking someone else. On the other hand, a woman is heard saying they were physically attacked.
