Tezpur: A day-long programme on large-scale tree plantation programme was organized by KVK, Sonitpur on Tuesday at the office premises. At the beginning of the event, 25 fruit, as well as agro forestry plants, were planted in the KVK, Sonitpur campus under the supervision of Rajib Singh, Farm Manager, KVK, Sonitpur. Sanjukta Saikia, in-charge, Head, KVK, Sonitpur, welcomed the farmers and dignitaries to the programme. Speaking at the occasion, DAO, Sonitpur, Prakash Kr. Borah highlighted the importance of tree plantation to curb the increasing pollution in the environment. He also briefed about Pradhan Matri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PMKMY) and requested the farmers to register under the scheme.
Shamim Aktar, RFO, Sonitpur West Division, spoke about the forest cover area in Sonitpur district and asked the farmers to go for more plantation of forests as well as beneficial trees. Morjina Begum, president of Gaon Panchayat, Napam talked about the reducing forest cover of Napam GP area and requested the Department of Forest, Sonitpur to provide tree saplings to them.
