Sibaprasad Kotoky, former Principal of Nakachari HS School near Mariani in Jorhat district, met an untimely death on May 8 after being hit by a speeding motorbike in front of his residence on May 4. Eldest son-in-law of our youngest aunt Bulu pehi of Dergaon, he was shifted in a critical condition to Guwahati on the same day, but succumbed to the severe head injury despite the best efforts of specialists in a private hospital four days later. Son of late Dimbeswar Kotoky and late Hemoda Devi of Namti (Sivasagar), he had first joined the Sasoni HS School near Naharkatiya in 1980 after obtained his MA degree in Economics from Dibrugarh University. In 1984 he shifted to Nakachari HS School, from where he attained superannuation as principal in 2014. His wife and our cousin sister Manju Devi had also served in the same school till her retirement in 2017.

Having settled down at Nakachari, bhindeu Sibaprasad Kotoky was a popular teacher apart from being associated with various organizations there. His untimely and tragic death has not only left his family and friends in deep shock, but also cast a pall of gloom at Nakachari and Namti. Bhindeu leaves behind his wife Manju Devi, a son, a daughter and a son-in-law in law in the immediate family, and a host of relatives, friends and admirers in different places. On his adya shraddha today, I offer my tributes to him on behalf of the entire family, and pray to the Almighty to grant his departed soul eternal peace.
