Guwahati: A truck that was seized by Chagolia Police Outpost was set on fire by miscreants at Golakganj in Assam on Sunday.
The Chagolia Police had seized the ruck along with 25 cattle on board on January 15 from Sagolia village in Golakganj in Assam's Dhubri district.
Reportedly, the truck was parked when a few miscreants set it on fire last night. However, the police are yet to nab the culprits involved in the incident.
Notably, in a similar incident, on December 30 last year, another truck which too was seized by the police in connection with a cattle smuggling case, was set on fire.
Police are actively detaining and arresting such people who are involved in cattle smuggling as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked them (Police) to check the illegal transport of cattle from the state to areas bordering Bangladesh.
The Assam government had also passed the 'Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Bill in the winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly in December last year.
