TU Hosts International Meeting On Smart Village

TU hosted a meeting for implementing Smart Village goals to generate sustainability in terms of employment, and income.

TEZPUR: Tezpur University (TU) aims to contribute to developing rural areas in the state, and the region by working closely with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest technical professional organization under its Smart Village (SV) initiative. In an event, the IEEE Smart Village Unit of Tezpur University hosted an international meeting for implementing Smart Village goals with an aim to generate sustainability in terms of employment, and income in rural areas.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University delivered the inaugural address, and spoke on the theme of the meeting. Dr RajanKapur, Senior Vice President, IEEE Smart Village, USA initiated the discussion by speaking on establishing a regional hub at Tezpur University to integrate the educational institutes in Northeast India to contribute to the global goals. He introduced the initiative to the participants, and said, "We need to provide solutions and not mere advice in order to develop sustainable villages. The IEEE Smart Village goals aim to create better livelihood for the underprivileged sections of the society, and by gathering global expertise, the institutes can solve problems for them."

Sanjay Patki, Chair, South Asia Working Group, IEEE Smart Village, stressed the importance of energy, education, and enterprise in creating better conditions in the villages of India.

Prof DCBaruah, IEEE SV member from Tezpur University, presented the plans of the University to develop Jhawani-3 village in Sonitpur by working with the IEEE SV Group, and invited the students to participate in the initiative by applying their concepts to technological and managerial problems. The IEEE delegates for the meeting, Prof. SashiKottayil, Prof. Akshay Kumar Rathore, GirishKhilari, and Ashok Vittal spoke on travel grants, projects, and various opportunities for the students to be part of the initiative.

The meeting resolved to initiate a networking of educational institutes in the region to contribute to the goals, and work in collaboration among themselves to create smart villages in the region.
