Two arrested for attacking police at Dhalpur in Darrang district

Darrang Police on Monday arrested two persons including a Gaon Panchayat president on the serious allegation of instigating and provoking the encroachers to attack upon the police

MANGALDAI: Darrang Police on Monday arrested two persons including a Gaon Panchayat president on the serious allegation of instigating and provoking the encroachers to attack upon the police while carrying out the eviction drive at Dhalpur under Sipajhar Police Station in Darrang district on September 23. They have been identified as Chand Mamood president of Sanowa Gaon Panchayat and Asmat Ali Ahmed former president of Bazna Pothar Gaon Panchayat. Both have been arrested in connection with Sipajhar Police Station case number 758/ 2021 under section 120(B)/143/147/148/149/331/333/353/325/326/307 of the Indian Penal Code.

Mention may be made here that on September 23 a group of encroachers attacked the police while assisting the district administration in carrying out the eviction drive at Dhalpur in which two persons were killed in retaliating police firing and three police official sustained serious injuries.
