Two Arrested For Rhino Horn Smuggling In Assam's Kaziranga

GUWAHATI: The Karbi Anglong Police in a major breakthrough arrested two persons for alleged involvement in the illegal smuggling of Rhino horn in Assam's Kaziranga.

On Tuesday 29 March, a team of police nabbed two people from the Karbi Anglong district of Assam for smuggling a rhino horn.

The two held are identified as William Tar and Reng Tisu hailing from Karbi Anglong.

William Tar was nabbed by police from the border area of Golaghat and Karbi Anglong while Reng Tisu was arrested from the Kuthi region which is closed to the border area of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong.

As per the police reports, these two smugglers bought one rhino horn from Jiten Sahu and his father Madan Sahu both residents of the Rangmang area of Karbi Anglong.

The duo had purchased the rhino horn a week ago on Wednesday 23 March. At present, the father and son duo are kept under police custody for their involvement in the case.

Both the father and son were arrested 3 days ago for their connection with the rhino horn smuggling case and were interrogated.

During the police interrogation, Jiten Sahu and Madan Sahu confessed about the rhino horn smuggling going on and the people involved in it.

A team of Karbi Anglong police in association with the forest department officials in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve succeeded in arresting the two illegal rhino horn smugglers.

Earlier, Jiten Sahu and his father Madan Sahu had bought the rhino horn at a rate of Rupees 57,000 from another person involved in the smuggling case identified as Subal Baori.

On 9 March 2022, the father and son duo collected the rhino horn from Subal Baori of the Hathikuli area in Kaziranga and bought it to Dokmoka for selling.

However, the police have also arrested Subal and at present, he is under police custody.
