Two Bongaigaon police personal injured

Bongaigaon police have started their operation against the illegal beetle nut trade.

BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon police have started their operation against the illegal beetle nut trade. Yesterday Bongaigaon Police apprehended one person Md. Abdul Hannan Ali alias Bablu (37), S/O Farid Ali of Aadhar xatra village Golaghat and was forwarded to Judicial Custody. He was arrested under case no 460/21 U/S 120B/413/420/468/471 IPC. Talking to the media, SP Swapnaneel Deka said that later the person was brought on remand for interrogation. "During the interrogation, it was learnt that the accused knew some local place & persons engaged in illegal business of betel nut. A team led by OC Bongaigaon PS & IO SI (UB) Krishanu Pathak took the accused person for identification of place and persons. The accused person was taken for identification of one Sapan Mondal & the godown used for illegal business at Chowraguri. After visit of Swapan Mondal the Police party was heading back towards Police Station. On the way the accused person requested for attending toilet and taking advantage he tried to flee. In the process SI UB Krishanu Pathak tried his best to stop the accused but in return the accused attacked him in the nose and caused grievous injury and taking advantage of the situation the accused tried to snatch the arm from PSO Najiruddin Khan. Both the Police Personnel was hurt and when the accused person failed in snatching the arm he again tried to flee and in retaliation, the IO SI UB Krishnanu Pathak fired in the air but still, the accused didn't stop. Thereafter under compulsion, the IO used to control firing and fired at his left leg to stop him from fleeing. The accused person was immediately moved to Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for treatment. The injured accused person was given first aid by the attending Doctor and thereafter referred to GMCH for better treatment. The Police Personnel injured in the process are under treatment at Bongaigaon Civil Hospital," SP said.

SI UB Krishnanu Pathak has suffered grievous injury & his condition is currently stable. "PSO Najiruddin Khan has suffered a simple injury and his condition is also stable," added SP Deka.
