DHUBRI: Md Mohibul Haque, as independent candidate from Gauripur, and SUCI candidate Dewan Habibur Rahman from Dhubri submitted their nominations on Wednesday. On Tuesday, BJP candidate Dr. Debamoy Sanyal submitted nomination from Dhubri.

Mohibul Haque was twice MLA from Gauripur and became minister in the Hiteswar Saikia government in 1991 but was denied ticket from Congress in 2006. So he contested as an independent candidate and won. Due to the grand alliance, Gauripur has gone to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and sitting AIUDF MLA Nizanur Rahman was fielded by the party again.

Meanwhile, keeping aside all guesses and speculations, BJP gave ticket to Banendra Kumar Mushahari from Gauripur. Mushahari has been changing parties in his more than 30 years of political career. First he became MLA as an independent candidate in 1996 and joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and won in 2001. Then he joined the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and won in 2011 but lost in 2016. In 2020, he left BPF and joined the BJP and got ticket from the party.
