SIVASAGAR: Technology Enabling Centre, Tezpur University successfully organized a two days' workshop on 'Innovation Ecosystem in Academic Institutions' in collaboration with Gargaon College and Institution's Innovation Council, Tezpur University at Gargaon College on February 9 and 10.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta. In his inaugural address, Dr Mahanta spoke about the importance of technological innovation for the teaching-learning process and our society at large. He also highlighted how the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has emphasized the practical applicability of knowledge. Dr Mahanta highly praised the organizers and the collaborating institutions saying that such programmes would surely give a fillip to the students and the faculty members in inculcating the spirit of innovative thinking.
This was followed by a talk delivered by the chief co-ordinator of the Programme and Assistant Professor of the Environmental Science Department, Tezpur University, Dr Nirmali Gogoi who busted several myths concerning technological innovation. She said that anybody can be an innovator provided one has the earnest desire for it. The inaugural session was attended by Dr Subhanjana Kalita, Assistant Professor of Tezpur University and various invited resource persons, faculty members and the students of the college and other participating educational institutions.
The first technical session of the Day 1 of the workshop was chaired by Dr Ranjana Gogoi, the Head of the Department of Statistics, Gargaon College. Prof Partha Pratim Dutta of Tezpur University gave an online lecture wherein he spoke at length about how to create a convenient ambience for technological innovation in academic institutions. Dr Surajit Konwer, Assistant Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Dibrugarh University gave another enthralling talk on the problems of Arsenic and Flouride contamination of water. Dr Konwer, an alumnus of the host institution, Gargaon College also pointed out various steps to prevent such contamination in lucid terms intelligible to all and sundry. Another interesting lecture was made by Dr Dipak Nath, Project Officer, Sericulture on the sericulture technology and its economic prospects. The second technical session of Day 1, chaired by Dr Dilip Kumar Deka, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Gargaon College, unveiled a fascinating interactive session with a bunch of promising young innovators and entrepreneurs like Nilutpal Gogoi, Ichangdaw Baruah and Rashmi Chetia.
Day 2 of the workshop showcased a science project model competition. Around 40 students from different educational institutions took part in this event. In the senior category, Ankur Gogoi and Aparajita Baruah of Gargaon College bagged the first prize and the second position was shared by Trinayan Jyoti Boruah, Deepsikha Kalita, Kiron Saikia, Subhajyoti Gohain, Bimrisha Buragohain and Shyamal Baruah (Gargaon College). In the junior category, Ghantibhuti Gogoi of DPS Nazira clinched the first position. The second position was shared by Archit Chetia and Mrinmay Saikia (Bidyabhawan, Dimual) and the third prize was received by Priyadarshini Duarah and Jilmil Mech (Bidyabhawan, Dimual).
The two days' workshop came to a successful end with a valedictory session attended by the Principal, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Vice-principal Dr Rina Handique and other dignitaries.
