SIVASAGAR: In a tragic road accident, two persons were killed after they were hit by a speeding bike at Namti on the Sivasagar district. The accident took place in the Dhodar Ali area at Namti on Saturday evening. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Alhaj Maulana Dawood Hussain and Matu Begum. Police said that a speeding Pulsar bike bearing registration number AS04W-1632 knocked down five persons in the Dhodar Ali area at Namti on Saturday evening. The five persons who were seriously injured were immediately taken to Sivasagar Civil Hospital for treatment.
However, they were later transferred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. Among the five persons, two of them lost their lives in the hospital while three are still in a serious condition. On the other hand, the rider of the Pulsar bike has been identified as Maina Gogoi of Adarsha village in Samguri. Three persons – one girl and one boy – were pillion riding on his bike while he was riding home.
Meanwhile, irate locals of the Dhodar Ali area severely protested against the incident and demanded compensation for the families of the deceased. The Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Sivasagar visited the spot on Sunday and took stock of the situation.
