Two dies, one critical in road accident in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Two persons of a family-Dipankar Ray (27), son of Hari Prasad Ray and Jyotimay Ray (15), son of Mahadev Ray died on the spot while Puski Ray (15) daughter of Hari Prasad Ray was injured critically in a major accident at National High Way 31 (C) under Serfanguri police station on Monday. Sources said Dipangkar Ray, who is an SSB jawan, along with his sister Puski Ray, went to Gossaigaon College for admission purpose of his nephew Jyotimay Ray who recently passed the matriculation examination. Their alto car bearing no. 16/A-5346 was believed to be hit by another speeding vehicle from behind during their return journey at Kokabari, NH-31 (C) at around 1.20-1.30 pm. It is also learnt that the car travelled by them dashed after being hit by an unknown vehicle against a standing trailer on the roadside and the car got badly damaged. Both Dipankar and Jyotimay died on the spot while critically injured Puski was sent to hospital for treatment. The accident brought a deep sense of sorrow in the locality. Meanwhile, local people have expressed fear that there will be a possibility of more accidents on the NH-31 (C) in their locality due to lack of repairing and maintenance by the concerned authority. Villagers informed that there was still a huge crater on the middle of the highway at Sirukhutu near Kokabari which can be dangerous.
