Two elephants dies of electrocution in West Karbi Anglong, Assam

The herd of elephants- one male one female has come in contact with a low hanging 33-kilo volt power cable in West Karbi Anglong which lead to their death

West Karbi Anglong: In a tragic incident, two wild elephants were electrocuted and died on the spot in the West Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Tuesday (December 15).

The herd of elephants came in contact with a low hanging 33-kilo volt power cable which resulted in them getting electrocuted to death.

The incident took place on Tuesday night at Bogorighat village in West Karbi Anglong.

The two elephants' carcasses–one male one female elephant was spotted by the residents of the area on Wednesday and informed Forest Department officials from the Southern Range which rushed to the spot immediately.

A resident of the village said, "the herd of elephants was roaming in and around the in these areas for the last two months in search of food. He said they have submitted application thrice to the office of the SDO Civil regarding the low hanging 33-kilo volt power cable but despite that, no importance was given to the issue.

The locals of the village blamed Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) for not maintaining the height of the wire of 33KV which resulted in the death of the elephants.

At the same time, one more elephant has died from an electric shock in the Kuklung range ranges of the Manas National Park forest in Chirang.

According to a media report, the death of the elephant was confirmed by Babul Brahma, an official of Manas National Park Forest

According to a media report, "Locals draw live electric wires in their farms and houses. The elephants upon crossing engage with them leading to their deaths," a high-level official from Wildlife Trust of India stated.
