Two herpetologists visited Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC on Thursday.

DEMOW: Two herpetologists visited Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC on Thursday.

Vishal Santra, executive member of Society for Nature Conservation Research and Community Engagement who hails from Nalikul, Hooghly, West Bengal, and Gnaneswar Chandrsekharuni, a Snakebite Project Coordinator, Madras Crocodile Bank Trust Centre for Herpetology, who hails from Mamallapuram, Chennai, visited Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC at Konwar Dehingia.

Dr Surajit Giri, anesthesia specialist of Demow Model Hospital, who along with his team is providing treatment to snakebite patients in Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC, showed the Snakebite ward to the two herpetologists. While interacting with media persons, both herpetologists said that this was the first hospital which had they visited in the Northeast which was providing good treatment to snakebite patients. They said that there was lack of awareness about snakebite among people and hence they would make two short films to create awareness among people about snakebite. The two short films would be on Snakebite Prevention and Snake Prevention. The short films will be in six north-eastern languages and will be produced by Madras Crocodile Bank Trust Centre. The shooting of the short films will be done in Demow Model Hospital-cum-CHC after few months, said Gnaneswar Chandrsekharuni.
