GUWAHATI: The state government is going to set up two new air conditioned (AC) bus stops in Guwahati. The two bus stops are going to be constructed at Kamakhya Gate near a newly inaugurated foot over-bridge.
As per sources, the public works department (PWD) will be given the responsibility of constructing the two new bus stops. One of the AC bus stops will be located adjacent to the Vishwakarma Temple at Kamakhya Gate area, while the other bus stop will be across the road from it. The bus stop near the Vishwakarma Temple is going to be a two-storey building. It will have a PWD site office on the top floor of the building. The work of the mega project is likely to begin from the end of this year, the sources said.
Situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra river, Guwahati is the biggest city in Assam and is also the biggest metropolis in the Northeast region. The city has various mediums of road transport like buses, auto-rickshaws, rickshaws and private vehicles. A large number of people prefer using buses for travelling in and around the city with the state-owned Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and private operators provide the city bus services at very affordable rates.
Volvo air-conditioned buses are also operated by the ASTC in the city and to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airportin Borjhar, about 20km from Guwahati city. Besides, there are many private buses available. Apart from that, online car services like Uber and Ola are also available.
