Two persons injured in road accident in Dibrugarh

Two persons were seriously injured in a major road accident in HS Road, Dibrugarh on Saturday night after a Chevrolet Sail car (AS06R 8134) hit some vehicles parked in the area.

DIBRUGARH: Two persons were seriously injured in a major road accident in HS Road, Dibrugarh on Saturday night after a Chevrolet Sail car (AS06R 8134) hit some vehicles parked in the area.

According to police, the Chevrolet Sail coming from the Khemka Market direction hit some vehicles parked near ICICI Bank on HS Road. The vehicle also hit a Scooty coming from the opposite direction. According to information, the scooty rider, Prashanta Konwar and the person said to be driving the car, Homenjyoti Buragohain were seriously injured in the accident. The scooty rider was rushed to AMCH while the person driving the car was admitted at the Brahmaputra Diagnostic.

According to sources, Homenjyoti Buragohain was under the influence of alcohol while driving the car. He hit the vehicles parked in the HS road area. According to information, Homenjyoti hails from the Demow area and he had visited Dibrugarh yesterday due to some personal reasons. Sources added that he came out of a bar-cum-resturant on HS road. The incident happened at around 12.30 am.

As per police, the family members of Prashanta Konwar will lodge a complaint against the accused. Police sources said that there were four persons in the Chevrolet Sail. Four parked cars bearing registration numbers: Baleno (AS06AH 5301), Seltos (AS01FD 0371), Seltos (AS06AD 8199) and Maruti (800 AS06C 5756) and the Activa Scooty (AS06AJ 0548) were badly damaged in the incident.

“Alcohol is the major cause of accidents. It has been found that most of the recent accidents which occured in Dibrugarh were drunk driving cases,” said a police official. He said, “We are investigating the matter. Right now we cannot say anything. If the person was under the influence of alcohol when the accident happened, we will take strict action against him.”
