Two Tokay geckos seized in Barpeta, two arrested

BARPETA: A team of 27 Battalion SSB, Howly under the direction of Abhishek Anand, Commandant, seized two Tokay Geckos and arrested the smugglers on the spot while undertaking a joint operation with forest officials.

The operation was conducted under Bhunyapara forest range on Thursday in Manas Reserve Forest. The place where the operation took place is 6 km away from the Indo-Bhutan border under district Baksa. Tokay Gecko was listed in Schedule 4 of India's Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Two residents of Baksa under Simla Police Station were apprehended red-handed in the illegal trade of the protected species. They were searching for customers to sell the tokay geckos. One gecko is 25 inches long and another one is 17 inches long. The tokay geckos along with apprehended persons were handed over to the Range Officer Bhunyapara for further legal action.
