UBPO demand government to implement recommendations of 3rd Bodo Peace Accord

UBPO (United Bodo People’s Organization) has demanded the State Government to implement the recommendations of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord and provincialize the Bodo medium schools and colleges immediately.

LAKHIMPUR: UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) has demanded the State Government to implement the recommendations of the 3rd Bodo Peace Accord and provincialize the Bodo medium schools and colleges immediately. The organization reiterated the demands as per resolutions taken in a crucial meeting of its executive body on Tuesday.

The executive meeting of the organization was held in the conference hall of the Literature and Cultural Project of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, located at Garhchuk. The meeting commenced with president Manoranjan Basumatary in the chair while general secretary Pitambar Brahma explained the objective of the event. The meeting held a detailed discussion over various issues of the Bodo community.

Taking part in the discussion adviser Bipin Goyari said that the UBPO should play strong role to delimit the constituencies under Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), on conducting census of the Bodo community people, in making of voters' list etc. He laid stress on pressurizing the State government to expedite its due activities regarding the issues concerned.

On the other hand, chairperson Badal Mussahari called upon the regional and district bodies of the UBPO to extend their cooperation to make the organization's 8th annual session successful. Notably, the event will be held at Langhin in Karbi Anglong district in the month of February of the upcoming year.

In the same meeting, BKWAC Chairperson Gambaru Mussahari informed that the State Government had already taken steps to enforce the Forest Right Act, 2006. He added that the State Government had effectively initiated steps to accord the land right to the forest dwellers of the State as per the Act concerned by creating awareness among the people about its rules and regulations. In this regard, he appealed to the Tribal community people to come forward to achieve their judicious right by extending due cooperation.

Further, the executive meeting took resolutions to instruct the regional and district bodies under the UBPO to hold their session within the month of January, to oppose the decision taken by the government making the Assamese language compulsory for the Bodo medium students as 4th language, to demand for the appointment of professor for the Bodo language in the colleges outside of the BTAD, to implement Forest Right Act, 2006 effectively.
